CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Deputy Principal & Head of Learning

Role Summary

Chrislyns Junior School & Day Home is seeking a dynamic and visionary Deputy Principal & Head of Learning to play a key leadership role in achieving the school’s mission of providing holistic, high-quality education. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing teaching and learning, ensuring academic excellence, supporting staff development, promoting learner welfare, and assisting in the overall administration and growth of the school. This role requires creativity, innovation, and strong leadership skills to foster continuous improvement across all areas of learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teaching & Staff Development

  • Organize and oversee training, orientation, and supervision of all teaching staff and assistants.
  • Collaborate with the Principal on academic, curriculum, and staffing matters.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide feedback to enhance teaching practices.
  • Ensure teachers engage in ongoing professional development, focusing on African, Christian, Classical, Cross-Cultural, and Pedagogical approaches.
  • Facilitate staff performance evaluations and support performance management processes.

2. Curriculum & Academic Oversight

  • Assist in curriculum development and ensure effective implementation in line with the school’s objectives.
  • Monitor academic standards, recommend improvements, and maintain documentation for curriculum guides and accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee administration of annual achievement tests and other academic assessments.
  • Coordinate with Learning Specialists to support learners with diverse educational needs.

3. Student Support & Welfare

  • Review admissions and assess suitability of prospective students.
  • Maintain high standards of academic conduct and learner discipline.
  • Monitor learner progress and foster effective parent-teacher communication.
  • Coordinate field trips and extracurricular programs to enrich the learning experience.
  • Ensure timely preparation of academic schedules and learner timetables.

4. Administration & Leadership

  • Support the Principal in conducting meetings and addressing institutional matters.
  • Assist in managing school resources and assets.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Principal and School Management Committee.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Education or Degree in Primary Education from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an administrative or leadership role within an educational institution, preferably in a private school setting.
  • Proven experience in people and organizational management.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Chrislyns Junior School, with a willingness to make a long-term impact.
  • Sound understanding of community-based approaches to education.

This position offers a high degree of autonomy to implement initiatives that drive measurable progress in teaching and learning. Performance-based incentives will be awarded for innovative contributions. The Deputy Principal will report to the Principal and the School Management Committee.
